Offered for sale is a fine Gentleman's mechanical wrist watch from 1946 with a high quality Durowe, Caliber 1258, 10½"', 21 Jewel movement and a stainless steel case (marked shock proof and waterproof) with a military style black face and luminous hands. This watch is in working order (though, in view of its age a clean and service would be recommended prior to regular use) and it has a centre sweep seconds hand with arrow tip in red and graduated chapter. All in all, a very nicely engineered and attractive period timepiece.

Durowe, Caliber 1258, 10½"'movement with 21 Jewels and centre seconds.

Stainless steel case with back secured by screwed ring, 33 mm dia., 18 mm lugs.

Black face with luminous Arabic numerals, luminous hands, red tip on second hand.

Face signed: "Anker, 21 Jewels, Shockproof, Nivaflex" Case signed: "All Stainless Steel, Waterproof, Shockproof". The watch runs well but may need regulating.

Mechanical watches make the ideal gift - classic appearance and no battery to fade or fail. They do, however, require attention from time to time by a competent watchmaker and although usually good timekeepers, a mechanical watch needs to be wound regularly and carefully. Timekeeping is unlikely to match the performance of modern quartz movements but, if properly looked after and regularly serviced, a mechanical watch will still be keeping good time long after its modern counterpart has ceased to function.
